Thirty-Five

Thirty-five years ago

before we were old enough

to vote or take a drink

we took a vow to forever link

Our lives together
*

Such a monumental pledge it was

Yet we knew it was the thing to do

Our love was strong
Our life together would be long

We knew it in our hearts
*

We plunged forward in joyful bliss

With hopes and dreams abounding

Soon challenged by life’s realities

We strove to overcome our frailties

And we did
*

And who in this perilous age

Would have thought

Or dared to dream our vow

Would last ‘til now

Our 35th anniversary
*

So here’s to us, my love

Together we have persevered

And conquered each and every fear

And as we embark upon another year

May our love last forever
